Intro: Question, Experience, Story
They played their part, how about you? I hope that you are not just playing the part of Christianity.
Do you reemember where you were when you heard the first Christmas song this year, out loud? Where… Now you probably don’t even recognize that it is on, it has become white noise.
Which one is your favourite?
Passage of Scripture: Matthew 1:23 ““Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”
A Christmas Song: “God with Us”
Summary/Point: The presents under the tree will not last as long as His presence with you and me
Illustration: remembering a Christmas song

A Christmas Song: “God with Us” (vs. )

A familiar sound (vs.)
Behold- pay attention! Come out of the ordinary, escape the routine, shake off the numbness or normal.
This is a quote from Isa. 7:14.
It was true to the people in Isaiah’s day, when Jesus was born, and today. That is a long time!
A future promise (vs.)
The virgin
shall conceive- future tense for Isaiah, present tense for Mary and Joseph, past tense for us
bear a son-
A Fitting Saviour (vs.)
They shall call his name Immanuel- the people will call him Immanuel, not his parents. This is a title more than given name by the parents
Which means God with us
Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
Maybe the idea that God is with you is as fresh as the first time you heard Christmas music in the air.
Maybe the idea that God is with you has become white noise, something that doesn’t stand out to you anymore, you can quote it from your mouth, like many of the songs we sang tonight, but it has become ordinary, routine, and normal.
Summary/Point: The presents under the tree will not last as long as his presence with you and me.
